New Computer + Commissions + Resolutions

Journal Entry: Sun Jan 5, 2014, 5:12 PM

New Computer

Good news guys! I finally bought that desktop computer I've been talking about.

Now I can work faster!

I've owe :iconiiwi: and :iconp-soldiers: vectors and I'm going to deliver! I've been putting it off  because I have a clear idea of what I want to do. But I know my computer won't be able to handle the complex files I have in mind. Not with it giving me save errors and semi-over heating when it's been on all day.

But this is what a $600 Dell laptop will get you folks...

Commissions Open Soon

Once my new machine gets here I can finish those loose ends. And also get to work on personal projects.

Commissions will be open soon!

I need to revamp my commissions sheet. Potentially post it in the forums.

Get at me if you're interested in commissions.

New Year's Resolutions

Resolutions are not really my thing. I never do them and I blame the 365 days of rollercoaster emotions/situations/calcification. Who really wants to do anything when you can't decide how you're feeling from one day to the next. Maybe just me though...

But anyway here is my small pending list of things I'd like to get done this year:

- Get some products made/overhaul my Etsy Store
- Stick to a self-promo plan and get it done
- Take an actual vacation outside of the state
- Make a mini zine of some of my work

2013 - Secret Santa Wishlist

Journal Entry: Sat Oct 12, 2013, 4:45 PM

Secret Santa

To my Secret Santa at :iconsantas-harem:

Draw my original character Jan. Here are a few stats:

Age: Early 30s
Hair Color: Blue
Hair Style: Usually in a bob that frames her face (with uneven bangs)
Occupation: Office Secretary (who occasionally does style makeovers as a side gig)

She loves sweets and is a coffee/tea kinda person. Brightly colored clothing with crazy patterns are her thing.

 A few references:

Sugar Sweet by nicole-m-scott 12,000 Hits by nicole-m-scott The Make-over by nicole-m-scott

Make it fun!
Use any medium/style you feel comfortable with.
Create a new outfit for her. Put her in a unique setting. Draw her with your own characters.
Whatever you need to do to enjoy it.

I'm not a picky artist, so no pressure!

iMac or Mac Mini?

Journal Entry: Mon Jul 1, 2013, 3:29 PM

I've Been Living Underneath A Rock.

My journal entry from January is a constant reminder of how lazy I am.

So here we go.

I'm not dead.

My Dell laptop of 5+ years is really starting to show it's age. And I'm too frustrated with it's slowness to want to vector. I mean on a bad day, I'm waiting 5 minutes for it to move an object from point A to point B...

But that's not the important part really...

My sister just bought an iMac a month ago and reminded me of the gloriousness of Bootcamp and the idea of partitioning (she's a Sims fanatic...).

And now I feel incredibly stupid.

People have been asking me why I don't splurge on a Mac and silly me forgot about that feature (which makes the PC version of my Adobe software and non-issue).

So now my issue is deciding if I want the iMac or the Mac Mini. I use Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Dreamweaver for my Graphic Design/Illustration the most.

So with that said. I will unfortunately not be vectoring much in the coming months. Until I save up enough to buy a Mac anyway...

But I will still be drawing stuff (and banking a ton of illustrations in my queue in preparation for my new computer) so check out my social networks below:

The 2013 Bucket List

Journal Entry: Sun Jan 13, 2013, 5:25 AM

2013 Bucket List

The new year has started! This year, I'm planning on climbing out of my box. It has come to my attention that I am a very reclusive introvert and I need to get out and meet people. I've been in Richmond for 4 years and I haven't really participated in much around here. So to counteract that, I've started a quasi-bucket list of things I want to do before the year is out:

1) Get some form of self promotion printed so I can start freelance work.

2) Go to a ADCMW networking event.

3) Draw something for Deviantart every month.

4) Go to some meetups so I can actually be social.

5) Get some artwork into juried shows.

6) Buy and practice more with Copic markers

7) Get out of production design and find a graphic design job that pays decently.

Secret Santa's Harem 2012

Journal Entry: Sat Nov 17, 2012, 10:06 AM

Secret Santa's Instructions

Well Santa's Harem, ----> :iconsantas-harem:

This year I've been spending time developing my style.

So in that vein, I want to see you draw in your own style! Be creative
and use your artistic license. Experiment, try out a new technique. Pick
an item from the list below and get going! I'm excited to see what
you come up with.

1)
Draw my OC Jan. She's still a sort of prototype so I'm
not attached to anything at the moment!

Short Jan - Cover by nicole-m-scott 100. - Relaxation by nicole-m-scott

2)
Draw my incredibly neglected alternate persona Cottie. I don't have
any plans to do anything specific with her. But I may redraw her to
make myself feel better about my crap artwork from back then...

Teenage/Child-like Cottie --->

3)
Draw something you thik I would like.... Puruse through my gallery/scraps
and see what I do. Then draw something you think would be awesome. Simple? Yep.

Thanks in advance Super Secret Santa!

I've Been Featured @ SomethingWeLike.com

Journal Entry: Sat Sep 15, 2012, 2:28 PM

SomethingWeLike.com is a pretty awesome website. It features interviews with various artists across the globe, that is a Q&A of sorts that delves into their influences, medium and thoughts about the industry.

You can find their website here ---> www.somethingwelike.com

I was approached to do an interview after my last DD (thanks again :icondomism:!) for Take It To The 80s. Which was an awesome opportunity (thanks SWL staff!)!

To be honest I was a little nervous about it, because there are always instances in everyday life where I say entirely the wrong thing. So I really had to boil down my answers to the necessities of what I wanted to say.

You can find the full interview here --> www.somethingwelike.com/inspirational/nicole-monique-scott

Also (as an aside) I'm  putting effort into getting my Etsy and Society6 pages back into shape. I kinda opened accounts with them and then kinda fell of the wagon there. Although it'd be a lot easier if I had money to make things with (I *really* want to get back into acrylics and try out some techniques and actually buy a full set of copic markers). T__T   *cries and sobs*

But for the time being I'm stuck buying only a few items at a time (as my paycheck allows).

Self Promotion + Gallery Exhibition Proposal

Journal Entry: Sun Aug 26, 2012, 4:05 PM

I've been watching my Deviantart page. But I haven't been *watching* my page
and uploading things
you know what I mean? I have a couple of side projects on my plate that are eating up my vector time. See below:

Self Promotion

The dreaded self promo problem.

To be honest I've been talking/working/talking about self promo for some time. And I don't know if I stated that I'm a in-house graphic designer for a living? But as you know, it's virtually impossible for an artist to concept and design their own work. We're riddled with questions of logos, recognizability, practicality, blah blah blah. But I'm making an honest effort at it again. I've got a theme down finally. Now to tie it all in with the right photos, wording, honesty,etc. Once I'm done I may post pictures (God knows when that'll be though, I'm broke, so don't hold your breath right now) either on here or on my facebook/twitter/tumblr/pinterest accounts. Just to show how goes it, finally.

Exhibition Proposal

I haven't done this before so don't shoot me. Please.

Some of the galleries in downtown Richmond are opening up for their next season of exhibitions. So me and :icondrowningdawn: are in the process of compiling a proposal. Although she doesn't post on Deviantart much, she's a good friend of mine that I hang with. We both draw a lot of females (probably stemming from our on-going battles with being the fair sex, ha!) and we decided to create a split exhibition centered around that. We feel like it would be a good mix because I'm African American and she's Caucasian. And throw in the fact that I draw mostly digital vectors and she works in mostly traditional mediums. It should be a right interesting party! My work here lately is more edgy/ethnic and her's is more soft/dream-like. So it'll be fun. We hope.

Side note: As this is our first time proposing an exhibit (that's not college related), I doubt we'll get a slot. But I'll keep you updated either way.

That's basically what I've been up to and why I've been idle. I think I'm one of those one track mind, focus-on-one-task-only kind of people. I don't tend to do well juggling things.

DD! + OC Feature

Journal Entry: Wed Jul 4, 2012, 8:09 AM

THANK YOU!!!

I knew something was up this morning, especially when I saw :icondomism: in my message box!

It's the equivalent of finding your mailbox stuffed full of yummy candy!

Special thanks to :icondomism: for featuring Take it to the 80's by nicole-m-scott and everyone who took the time to view and :+fav: it!

I wasn't expecting anything for a while, since I'm still experimenting with this style! Baby steps!

JULY FEATURE: DEVELOPING A GOOD OC

To an amateur, creating and original character seems easy. But sometimes in the quest to stand out, we venture into the mundane and otherwise trite cliché.  While there is no rule book to creating OC's, there are opportunities to learn from other artists' characters. One indisputable understanding is to keep drawing.  As your style evolves, your understanding of the character will also. Charting your growth can help you see the overall progress. It's amazing what can be accomplished when you keep pushing.
Below are some examples of growth in both the Original Character and the artists' overall style.
:thumb215359248: Lulu: 2004-2012 by DigiKat04 OC Evolutionnn by kawajenn
See what you can do when you keep at it?
Here are some other OC's on their journey to maturity.  Also here are some loose rules of thumb for creating a character with staying power.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

:iconazixel: <-------------Azixel------------->
:icontrivialtales: <-------------Trivial Tales------------->

Dark qualities make your characters more human if not interesting.

Cross Balance Char 1 by Azixel
Azixel says: "They're 2 parts of the same personality. One is the good and the other one is the bad"

Luna and Pals by trivialtales
Trivialtales says: "Luna Lesser, the protagonist of the strip. She does not concede to reality, and instead does whatever she wants, using her own warped logic to warp the logic of the situations around her."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

:iconkittysophie: <-------------Kitty Sophie------------->

A good balance of color can be more effective than overworked outfits and hair. Colors go a long way to creating a specific mood for a character's personality.

my first OCs by kittysophie

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

:iconsmoppet: <-------------Smoppet------------->
:iconsaskiadekorte: <-------------Finnguala------------->

Time periods can be challenging. Connecting your viewer's to an era can make your characters more tangible.

Smoppet Says: "Jason and Venus. They're totally Soviet spies from the 50s."

Siblings II - colour by SaskiaDeKorte
Finnguala says: "Aedwen, Sigulf and Hildegard are siblings. Hildegard is the youngest and Aedwen the eldest. Sigulf is the village's smith (hence his huge muscular body) and he loves only two things: his work and his sisters. Hildegard is considered the most beautiful girl in town, and Aedwen secretly envies her for this. Aedwen is the most sensible of the three."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

:iconshininginthedarkness: <-------------Shining In The Darkness------------->
:iconharushadows: <-------------Haru Shadows------------->

Incorporating non-human features creates other aspects of mystery and depth to their personality.

Joanna Von Pickle by shininginthedarkness
Shark Bones by HaruShadows

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

:iconalbinogrimby: <-------------Albino Grimby------------->

Specific types of outfits can anchor your OC in a style and make them consistent. Repetition creates instant recognition in the viewer's mind.

Winter Lolita by AlbinoGrimby
Albino Grimby says: "The dress (all of Kamiko's clothing) is inspired from the Lolitia movement in Japan, which is pretty similar I think to Victorian sensibilities. I always thought of Lolita as a form of rebellion. Women probably didn't like being surrounded by a hypersexualized male gaze so they choose this style of dress. I actually did design Kamiko's personality to clash against the way she looks."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

:iconahkward: <-------------Wolfiegirl 3005------------->
:iconderede: <-------------Derede------------->

Giving non human characters, simple interests and realistic human goals keeps them from becoming detached from the audience.

On the Edge by Ahkward
Wolfiegirl3005 says: "He is a spirit of the forest being forced to serve the people of the village, but he has much more in store for him, including revealing his own past and a threat that comes his way.  He is obsessed with apples, and loves to fly (when in his spirit form)."

SOTUW: Ragger Frash by Derede
Derede says " Ragger Frash is the principal of Underworld Boarding School. He is a always professional and is always one step ahead of the crowed. Sporting an ego to shatter stars, Ragger Frash has taught the best monsters and demons about the concepts of fear. He lives by the saying "In order to cause fear, one must feel fear".

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

:icontyrannoninja: <-------------Brandon S  Pilcher------------->

Bringing known ancient cultures into the 21st century creates mystery and bypasses the detached notion of the unrealistic.

BrandonSPilcher says: "She's actually Egyptian, or more specifically Kemetic; she hails from an alternate timeline in which various civilizations from our ancient past have survived into the modern era. A rigorously trained warrior, she works as an agent of espionage and other special operations in the Pharaoh's service. Think of her as being modern Kemet's equivalent to a CIA agent."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

:iconuranus-seventhsun: <-------------Simple Minds------------->

Integrate other species into the human race. It creates an interesting tension, conflict, and juxtaposition of personalities.

Bind II by Uranus-seventhsun
Simple-Minds writes: "Jane didn't want to marry this hot-headed upstart human, but he needed her help to protect his planet. She's a sucker for those in a spot of bother, so agreed to the bond she did. All she needed to do was protect his planet. No problem. Except the marriage bracelets had put her in temporal hell."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

:iconangel-soma: <-------------Angel Soma------------->
:iconcassidypeterson: <-------------Cassidy Peterson------------->

Juxtapose contrasting personality traits. It creates complex motives, morals and keeps the OC from being pigeonholed into a sterotype.

Akuma_Well Hello There by Angel-soma
Angel-Soma says: "I originally wanted Akuma to be this bad-ass tough guy,  but I fell in love with him so much I didn't want him to seem mean.  He acts tough to impress people but it just really depends on the situation and who he's with (at the time) that reflects how he shows his emotions."

Caraline in Blue by CassidyPeterson
CassidyPeterson Says: "She was originally the result of three deviantArt polls; one for an adjective, one for a noun, one for a profession. The results were "shy," "catgirl," and "school teacher."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

:iconlodchen: <-------------Lodchen------------->

There's a place for violence and adult storylines too. Everyone sympathizes with a fighter.

Deliver us from Evil by Lodchen
Lodchen says: "She's a paid killer, hating her work. Her parents died and she got adopted by a very vicious man who trained her. She finally kills him, but already was bound too deep to the organization he worked for, so she stays in this organization."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

:iconhong-t: <-------------HonG-T------------->
:iconeryckwebbgraphics: <-------------Eryck Webb Graphics------------->

Growing up with superpowers is rife with misunderstandings and drama. But it's all in how you frame it. You live and you learn. Period.

Early Awaiting by HonG-t
HonG-T says: "He is a pretty easy-going, persevering type of guy although he becomes less patient as he get older. He used to be able to use the sound of his voice to attack or cure, but at 18, his ability before disappears and he acquires a new ability of manipulating other people's ability (though there are some set backs)."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

:iconacaciathorn: <-------------Acaciathorn------------->
:icondarklimitarts: <-------------Dark Limit------------->
:iconayuminazu: <-------------Ayumi Nazu------------->

Insurmountable obstacles aren't always a death sentence (or a good reason to ret-con anything….) Test your OC's mettle and make them more three dimensional.

Uncertain Loyalties by Acaciathorn
Acaciathorn says: "Rum has a power similar to waterbending and is capable of great of destruction, but she is terminally ill with an autoimmune disease that sometimes afflicts people in the world of the story (this is the reason for the dark circles under her eyes). Rum struggles to ignore the fact that all her vast power means nothing in the face of a body that's falling apart with her inside it. Her pain makes her desperate, and she spends a lot of time searching for something to fight for.

Pele The Cat by DarkLimitArts
DarkLimit says " A handicapped cat with no legs I designed, He's the protagonist for my new children's book I am working on."

Waltz in the Sky by AyumiNazu
AyumiNazu says: "She is an angel with wings too small to fly."

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

:iconpigmanga: <-------------Pigmanga------------->

Fighters come in all shapes and sizes. Play with body proportions. Realistic isn't the only way to gain interest.

Scrapper Endo Pinup color digi by pigmanga
Pigmanga says: "He lives on a desolate world with a gladiator type fighting ring for gambling and entertainment.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

:iconpemamendez: <-------------Pema Mendez------------->

Don't avoid bittersweet tragedies. OC's are not china dolls, they break. And the viewer learns a valuable lesson. Life is a lonely fragile road.

:thumb310753094:
Pigmanga says: "Miyamoto Kurou, a Yakuza assassin who dies a very young age and becomes a hero. He is a very young weathered man in constant struggle with himself. I always give reasons for their traits and features, nothing is "just because"

:thumb268636453:
Shirazuki says "Dear was actually a doll in a form of little girl, but she was not aware of it. She lives in a mansion which all of the living things are dolls, and never knew the outside world except her big mansion."

Username Change + Social Media

Journal Entry: Sun Jun 10, 2012, 11:26 AM

People seem to have a lot of reasons for changing their username. Here are mine:

:bulletblue: Deviantart was never meant to be important during my college years and by extension my username didn't really matter.

:bulletblue: I vaguely remember a friend-of-a-friend initially signed me up for it, so I didn't get to put thought into my username.

:bulletblue: I'm a professional artist now, and I'd like my social media sites to be uniform (mostly anyway).

And there you go! Mission Accepted! Name Changed!

Finding A Style And Niche

Journal Entry: Sat Jun 2, 2012, 4:53 PM
I've been genuinely sitting down to think about my style as an artist and my goals as to what I want to do with it. As of right now, I don't have a consistent style, a particular niche, or a plan for selling anything that I make. I've been doing what most artists do:

1) searching other artists styles and incorporating pieces and parts that I like (sort of a mixing bowl).
2) Defining/analyzing the various artwork I do & don't like (my favorites are pretty interesting to analyze).

In terms of answers, I've only vague inclinations.

A) I want to draw more black girls (African American artists were the one thing missing from my childhood that I find generally appalling).
B) I want to find a comfortable/ unique style to work in.
C) And I want to sell my work or at the least get a solo gallery shows (endgame!).

Obviously this is going to take a lot of work.  And as I slowly climb out of this dark hole I consider artists block (an uninspiring hellish time, I assure you.), it's raising a few questions.

1) Do you have specific methods that you utilize to go about creating a unique style of your own? Patterns in your work techniques or methods of gaining inspiration?

2) Did you decide on a niche to cater to? Or did your work just organically fall into it?

Just questions. Lots and lots of questions.....

Art House Presents: The Sketchbook Project 2013

Art House Co-op Presents: The Sketchbook Project 2013

Thanks to my very web savvy friend I am participating in this very unique project. It's pretty simple actually. You sign up and they send you a custom made sketchbook. You fill up the pages with your imagination and send it back to them. Then they cart around the entire library of artist books across the U.S. for people to view. As far as I'm concerned it's a pretty sweet deal. You pay a few bucks, draw whatever is on your mind, and get unbelievably valuable exposure. It's like the "100 Themes Challenge" here on DA, but more massive. So I encourage everyone to participate. You just might learn something about yourself along the way!

Finally back from the dead, Astro Devil has much to offer. After deleting
his old gallery he starts fresh with this piece below. The cleanliness of
his vectors and the "Laura Croft"-esque style will keep you watching his
gallery for more.

Ducky's psychadelic influences work well with his exploration of animal
themes. Like a train wreck/mash up of the 70's and some of the greatest
literary references. I'm interested to see where he will go with this.

The rules are as follows:

***IMPORTANT: If you do comment, you're expected to do the same in your own journal; putting me on the first place, completing the list with 10 other people.

*** The idea behind this is NOT to get a free feature, but to help spread art and artists around for everyone. So why not check out the artists on other peoples' list?

His character design is impressive. The amount of emotion he conveys
is delicious.But more than that, his versitility as a vector artist makes his
gallery interesting to sift through. And he vectors with CorelDraw which
is a rare thing.

This girl creates what I can only term as "Rainbow Explosions".
Her technique in illustrator looks like Photoshop from far away.
But when you get upclose you see the graffiti-esque and gritty
way she applies the color. And all the colors....a girl after my
own heart! If there  ever was a graffiti artist turned digital artist,
she would be the embodiment.

The thin lines and cell shading of her illustration style makes
her work unique and outside of the normal methods. It's rare to see

Secret Santa Time!!!

Journal Entry: Tue Nov 8, 2011, 5:16 PM

THIS IS MY WISHLIST FOR MY SECRET SANTA'S -->

:iconsecretsantafor2011: :icontajii-chan:

Hello my secretest santa!

I'm Nicole, a graphic designer trying to find a way to make a living off of vector art. I like bright colors, strong heroines, and coffee. I love talking to people , this awesome gadget known as the internet, and  collaborating on artwork with other artists. Despite that, I am terribly shy in person and I have a hard time keeping conversations going. But maybe we could be friends and keep in touch after this trade!

1) I WANT MY GIFT TO BE:

A drawing (in any medium you like).

2) IN MY GIFT I'D LIKE TO SEE::

Wishlist #1
Draw (in your own style) one of my original characters (from my OC's gallery folder) interacting with one of your OC's.

I have three characters below. Sorry, that I haven't fleshed them out enough.Use your imagination and artistic license.

Bit --> fav.me/d1hywl7
   Bit is a 20 year old demon hunter that can use her earrings to teleport across the world  and seal demons. She has an acient gold shard embedded below her collar bone (the fragment manifests itself in "meta" humans by the age of 16) which marks her as gifted. She is the rebellious younger child of a traditional japanese family who pretty much runs away from home to escape an  arranged marriage to an controlling corporate CEO.

Cottie --> fav.me/d15smyu
  Cottie is my somewhat bipolar alter ego. She can go from sugar sweet to verbal whiplash in 2.5 seconds. I tend to draw her either childlike or as an adult depending on my mood. The only real consistancy is her orange hair, yellow polkadot dress and blue eyes.

Short Jan --> fav.me/d4eg1s9
  Short Jan is a 30-something, administrative assistant in a corporate company who dresses in a somewhat dated retro style. She is the shortest person in the office and is mistaken for a shy mouse when she is really the opposite (i.e.- sakura haruno from naruto) but tries to maintain a measure of respect and control over her emotions. She has a very passive agressvie driven, sense of humor and finds other peoples misfortuines very funny. I am working on chronicaling her adventures in the corporate space as we speak, which are basically my own crazy office stories taken from my previous workplaces.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wishlist #2
   Reimagine one of my original characters as a mythical humanoid being of some sort. (i.e. - vampires, godesses, sirens, etc.)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wishlist #3
Draw one of my original characters as the animal pet (domesticated, wild or mythical) of your original character. ^_^
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3) EXTRA INFO::

Happy Holidays!

4) I WILL BE WILLING TO GIVE::

Nov. Vector Artists and Art Feature Game

Journal Entry: Sun Oct 30, 2011, 7:47 AM
I am participating in the Art Feature Game courtesy of :icontamarar:. I'm positng new vector artists to watch each month, so this tied in perfectoly.

The rules are as follows:

***Be one of the first 10 people commenting on this journal entry, and I will put your avatar and three deviations that I will personally select from your gallery in this "Share the Art" feature.

***IMPORTANT: If you do comment, you're expected to do the same in your own journal; putting me on the first place, completing the list with 10 other people.

Below are some vector artists I'll be watching the month of November! And I'm sure I have a lot to learn from these awesome artists! When you get time, please show them some love!

:iconclocktowerman: <--------Clocktowerman-------->

Despite his dark themes, his work is very refreshing. I haven't
seen many vector artists interested in the dark themes.The level
of detail and color is a stark contrast to the grotesque imagery.
But that is what makes it beautifully tragic an easier on the eyes.:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

:iconvenettabutcher: <--------Setsuna-37-------->

Her illustrated characters a.k.a. The Rowdies are unique and often
based on a real world object or concept.But what I find most fun is
the range of emotions and facial expressions.I could definitely see
her work translate to comic books.:

Ramen Warrior by VenettaButcher Arggggh by VenettaButcher
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

:iconanvigiki: <--------K-Chu-------->

K-chu's gallery is very editorial.Her designs are simple,elegant,
and gets the concept across quickly. Which is exactly what works in
magazines.:

:iconkatyorr: <--------Katyorr-------->

Katyorr's current style blends realism with steampunk. Perfect for
the aptly titled technological age.Every nut and bolt of each part of
her work is visible. And even the details in her work are complex.

:iconross-marisin: <--------Marisin-------->

At first glance his piece "nerd" made me chuckle. His character
designs are simple but convey a lot of style an punk rock flair.:

NERD by ross-marisin chiles by ross-marisin Retro music by ross-marisin
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

:iconeosvector: <--------Funk-x-------->

- Funk-X is exactly that, the basis of pop culture imagery. Like
Andy Warhol in a vector artists body, he creates imagery that extend
past the fad and into the iconic.It's our very culture turned into
a surreal picture book. :</i>

:iconimnosicko: <--------ImNoSicko-------->

Giancarlo, is the digital version of cut and paste.Mixing texture into
vector is nothing new. But if you had been living under a rock,
you'd probably think his work set the standard. The gritty textures in
his work is beautiful in a raw, pounding the asphalt kind of way.:

:iconjocokkk: <--------Jocokkk-------->

Vass Jozsef's work can only be described as tribal nouveau.
His work blends curvy feminine lines, the chunky segmented feel of
tribal art, and classic anime cel shading. The visual effect produces smooth
blocks of color with a soft understated detail. This is what anime
would have looked like had it been influenced by decorative art.:

:iconjeyjie: <---------Jeyjie-------->

At first glance, it looks like his gallery has been taken over by the
bobble head nation. But then you realize that it is his signature style
which works tremendously well. He uses lines to convey depth along
with cute facial expressions. His characters have a lot of character.:

Pinocchio by Jeyjie Diablos Inc. by Jeyjie Moi by Jeyjie

:iconkhayz: <--------Khayz-------->

Her work maybe stylized renditions of photos, but her coloring gives
them a vibrancy that emulates real life.Khayz's illustrations leap off
the page and spring in to action, dazzling the viewer with quirky
facial expressions.

Vector Artists To Watch - October 2011

Journal Entry: Sun Oct 9, 2011, 7:43 PM
I tend to keep an eye out for deviants working in my medium. Here are some promising vector artists that I feel have something interesting to offer or have inspired me to work harder from time to time. You may have already seen most of them around but don't let that deter you from introducing yourself.

If you have time, please show them some love!

:iconjennyonjupiter: <----- JennyonJupiter ----->
Her work is very clean and quirky. The compositions are very simple up close but the color and shading provide an interesting visual from far away.

:iconkiwifruit168: <----- Kiwifruit168 ----->
Her work is illustrated in a way that is reminiscent of 70's/80's style advertisements. She incorporates texture and shadows in a way that brings out depth in her work.

:iconaruri: <------ Aruri ----->
As an anime lover, I am always critical of those types of work, as it is a very specific style of illustration (that has the potential to be at times repetitive). Aruri incorporates color in a way that makes her style a visual treat. And the vector execution makes her rarer still.

So Anime by aruri bust a cap by aruri Spocky by aruri

:iconpeppergreenwoode: <------ Peppergreenwoode ----->
His use of color, emotion and spirituality gives his work a lot of meaning beyond the visual beauty. I love the softness and the touches of glow that makes his characters seem otherworldly.

:icondeericorn: <------ Deericorn ----->
I've only seen one of her vector works so far, but her use of patterns and pastels makes me think fondly of my childhood. She transports the viewer to her own upbeat world.

:iconljeem84: <------ Ljeem84 ----->
Ljeem84 brings a lot of comic book flair to vector. His thin outlines are refreshing and gives his work an almost hand drawn and effortless feel. His use of blush pink in key areas are great accents as well.

Her "Princesa" was a featured DD here recently, which I loved. Her use of gradients to add depth is exquisite. And her skintones are extremely smooth. I look forward to more from her.

:iconsketchhy: <------ Sketchhy ----->
His gallery is a mix of photoshop and illustrator. But it's his style that caught my attention first. He uses basic shapes to create a unique look to every character he makes. It's almost a tribute to throwback American cartoons like Hey Arnold, Doug and Pepper Ann.

:iconandreasardy: <------ Andreasardy ----->
Her mix of abstract and symbol creates and interesting visual puzzle. Her works are like a mashup of abstract expressionism and Where's Waldo. You'll stare at them for hours puzzling out the subtle details of each shape and character.

WHOA! Definitely logged on and was like "Why is my face in 100,000+ people's favorites?!"
